Valponasca è una cascina che si trova nella strada che conduce a Parodi Ligure, poco prima della frazione Cadegualchi; qui Maria trascorre l’adolescenza (dagli 11 ai 21 anni, 1848/1858).

Per Maria questo è un tempo intenso di scuola di vita, la sua fanciullezza è profondamente segnata dal cammino di maturazione umana e cristiana.

È la fase della personalizzazione della fede che pone le fondamenta del suo edificio spirituale.

Sotto la guida di Don Pestarino, abile direttore spirituale di Maria, inizia un periodo segnato da un intenso lavoro sul carattere che le permette di costatare i suoi limiti e imperfezioni senza indulgere allo scoraggiamento.

Don Pestarino coglie la sensibilità e la rettitudine del cuore di Maria, il suo lo spirito di sacrificio e la sua ferma volontà offrendo alla giovane le proposte spirituali di cui ha bisogno.

Pur nel rispetto dei ritmi e senza precipitazione, egli è deciso, fermo ed esigente. Sa di avere a che fare con una giovane dal temperamento forte e tenace, che richiede altrettanta determinazione formativa.

Valponasca is a farmstead situated on the way to Parodi Ligure, shortly before the hamlet Cadegualchi. Here Maria passes her adolescence (from the age of 11 to 21, 1848/1858).
