19. San Rocco | San Rocco

La cappella di San Rocco si trova sulla strada che, uscendo dal paese, conduce a Montaldeo. Risalente al XVI secolo, viene costruita per chiedere l’intercessione di San Rocco nella difesa dalle ricorrenti pestilenze. San Rocco è una figura probabilmente leggendaria che, secondo la tradizione sarebbe venuto dalla Francia in Italia per prodigarsi durante le epidemie e sarebbe morto curando appunto i malati di peste. La chiesetta è di modeste dimensioni, in pietra, a navata unica e presenta sulla facciata un dipinto in cui è possibile distinguere San Rocco, raffigurato giovane, con barba, in abito da pellegrino e con un cane. La festa del Santo è celebrata con una funzione religiosa il 16 agosto.

The chapel of San Rocco is situated on the road, which leaving the town, leads to Montaldeo. Dating back to the 16th century, it is constructed to ask for the intercession of San Rocco in defense of the recurrent plagues. San Rocco is probably a legendary figure who according to tradition would come from France to Italy to do his best during the epidemics and would die curing the plagues stricken.

The churchlet is of modest dimensions, made out of stone, possesses a single nave and features a painting on the façade where it is possible to distinguish San Rocco, depicted young, with a beard, in a pilgrim dress and with a dog. The feast of the Saint is celebrated with a religious service on August 16th.
