12. il Sentiero degli Orti | the Gardens path

Durante la convalescenza, Maria avverte la prima chiamata alla missione educativa e la svela all'amica Petronilla in un incontro avvenuto proprio in questo sentiero. «Senti, Petronilla, a me pare proprio che il Signore voglia che noi due ci occupiamo delle ragazze di Mornese. Guarda: tu non hai forza e non puoi andare in campana; io, dopo la malattia, non posso più. Tutte e due sentiamo vivo il desiderio di salvare l'anima nostra facendo del bene alle giovanette. Non ti pare che, se sapessimo cucire, potremmo riuscirvi? Io ho deciso di imparare a fare la sarta. Vieni anche tu con me».

During the convalescence Maria had her first call to the education mission and she reveals it to her friend Petronilla in a meeting that took place on this path. “Listen, Petronilla, it seems to me that God wants us two to take care of the girls of Mornese. Look: you don’t have the strength and cannot go to work in the fields; I, after the disease, cannot do that any longer. Both of us feel the desire to save our souls by doing good to young people. Don’t you think that, if we would know how to sew, we could succeed? I have taken the decision to learn the craft of sewing. Come with me too”.
